Presbytery of Pueblo
Growing Healthy Churches Mission Strategy
Purpose Statement:
The Presbytery of Pueblo exists to grow healthy churches committed to making new disciples for Christ.
Mission Statement:
The Presbytery of Pueblo shall be transformed in to a "Missional Presbytery" as a catalyst for congregational transformation and congregational reproduction.
Our Motto:
Ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda..."The church reformed always being reformed" Or: the Church changing, always being changed; The Church transformed, always being transformed; The Presbytery always seeking for Church Reformation and Reproduction.
Vision Statement:
In 2008, the Presbytery will launch the Growing Healthy Churches project with seven pastors and congregations committing to a 12-month program of church transformation resulting in an increase in worship attendance, the making of new disciples, and significant community involvement.
By May of 2009, the goal is for at least 50% of the churches involved in the program to be showing at least a 5% increase in average worship attendance and the implementation of spiritual formation programs targeted at their local community.
By 2014, the goal is for at least 50% of the churches in our presbytery to be "growing, healthy churches."
Core Values:
In our new Mission Design the Presbytery Pueblo has defined its core values as being a "missional, connectional and participatory" community of congregations.
|
"Missional" in that the presbytery is clear that its mission was defined by the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ, who commands the church to "go and make disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19-20)." The Presbytery cannot make disciples but the churches within the presbytery can. the Presbytery's function is to optimize the ability of churches to fulfill Jesus' command to make new disciples by providing training, coaching and consultation.
|
"Connectional" because when we covenant with each other to accomplish our mission, we willingly agree to be accountable and responsible for our part of the mission plan.
|
"Participatory" because the whole church - all of its members - are responsible for obeying Christ's Great Commission. We are the "sent" people, the "missional" people of God. It is all of us, working together, that will enable us all to succeed in being both faithful and fruitful in our mission and ministry. |
Mission Strategy:
For the first year (2008) we will invite up to 7 churches to covenant for the 12-month program. Some of the requirements and resources for the participating churches are as follows:
|
Monthly meetings (4-5 hours) with the pastors for leadership training and spiritual formation; 12 books will be assigned during the year.
|
A comprehensive church consultation over a weekend resulting in prescriptions for change.
|
Bimonthly meeting s for 12 months following the weekend consultation with a "coach" and the Pastors/Sessions of the participating churches. A team of church consultants will work directly with church leaders to identify and assist in implementing the necessary systemic changes for health and growth.
|
C.O.M.'s Mediation Team will be available to consult with Sessions and Pastors in mediating conflicts that arise from significant changes.
|
Two Lay Leadership Training events will be provided during the year open to all lay leaders in the Presbytery.
|
Training opportunities for pastors and elders available at the 3 Presbytery meetings. |
