HOMOSEXUALITY

We are all aware of the wide range of viewpoints among Christians on the polarizing topic of homosexuality, as is reinforced by the articles below. This subject has made an impact an all main line denominations, the PCUSA included. You will find links to sites on both sides of this controversial issue on this web page. Our hope is that it will provide a resource that helps you understand the controversy. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you have a strong viewpoint on one side of the issue, we hope you will take time to study the other side. This is important for the sake of understanding our brothers and sisters in Christ who have an opposite viewpoint from our own. This web site is NOT provided to change anyone's mind on the issue, but rather it is provided so that each of us can come to an understanding that the consciences of us all are bound by the witness of scripture to Jesus Christ. Our prayer is that by the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, each of us would come to a place of loving acceptance of each other with our differing points of view and in so doing glorify our God.

"The suffering that gay and lesbian people have endured at the hands of religion is incalculable, but they can look expectantly to the future for vindication. Scientific facts, after all, are a stubborn thing. Even our religious beliefs must finally yield to them as the church in its battle with Galileo ultimately realized. But for religion, the future might be ominous. Watching the growing conflict between medical science and religion over homosexuality is like watching a train wreck from a distance. You can see it coming for miles and sense the inevitable conclusion, but you're powerless to stop it. The more church leaders dig in their heels, the worse it's likely to be."

The leaders of two ex-gay ministries say that even if scientists someday find a biological basis for homosexuality, such behavior will nonetheless be immoral and the Bible's condemnation of it will still stand. "Science will never trump the word of God," the president of Exodus International said. "We already know that we are physically, biologically and spiritually fallen creatures, so in a sense finding a biological link to homosexuality wouldn't be a huge surprise. However, susceptibility isn't the same as inevitability. Our genetics aren't a tyranny over us." "Just because something is genetic doesn't make it moral, optimal or healthy," Chambers added.
